Funding & Enhancing Educational Programs
The SPCS Foundation provides avenues where individuals, organizations, and businesses can help support the school system through tax-deductible contributions. We use these monies to supplement our programs and provide for the unfunded needs of our educational community. The Foundation is a legally incorporated and non-profit organization established in accordance with state and federal tax guidelines.
The goals and objectives of the SPCS Education Foundation are very simple. We want to improve educational opportunities within the district by providing additional resources for a variety of academic, vocational, and extracurricular programs. These programs directly benefit students, faculty, and the community.

SPCS Education Foundation Grants
The SPCS Education Foundation provides grants to help seed new opportunities or enhance current programs, curriculum, classroom experiences, student activities, or staff development opportunities across the district.
The SPCS Education Foundation provides funding to:
- Seed a new program or curriculum opportunity
- Enhance an existing program, curriculum, classroom experience, student activity, or staff development opportunity
- Support students, staff, and educational opportunities across the district
ou may apply if your request:
- Aligns with the mission of the SPCS Education Foundation: To support students and staff by funding and enhancing educational programs within the Springfield Platteview Community School District.
- Has a clear educational purpose and demonstrated need
- Includes measurable outcomes
- Includes an itemized budget
- Has building principal approval before submission
A strong grant application should clearly explain:
- What the project is
- Who will benefit
- Why it is needed
- How it will seed or enhance learning or programming
- What success will look like
- How funds will be used
The Springfield Platteview Community Schools Foundation provides grant funding to support programs, projects and opportunities that enhance the educational experiences of SPCS students.
Applications are reviewed and scored by the Foundation Grant Committee as they are received, with grant requests considered by the Foundation Board throughout the year.
2026–27 Foundation Board Meeting Dates:
- September 18, 2026
- December 18, 2026
- March 19, 2027
- June 18, 2027
*For time-sensitive requests, completed applications should be submitted at least one week prior to a scheduled Foundation Board meeting. Urgent requests that cannot wait until the next scheduled meeting may be considered separately based on available funding and alignment with Foundation priorities.
The SPCS Education Foundation is proud to support projects that enhance educational opportunities for students and staff throughout the district. Below are examples of projects funded through Foundation grants:
- HAL STEM Equipment Upgrade — $3,600
- Daktronics Volleyball Scoreboard Package — $2,400
- Westmont Caring Closet — $500
- Soft Start Boxes — $260
- Special Education & Speech Therapy Equipment — $550
- Active Floor for Movement-Based Learning — $10,000
- Safety Patrol, Springfield Elementary — $180
- Sensory-Friendly Environment Initiative — $3,140
- Ride to Regulate Program — $1,760
- Attendance Incentive Program — $2,000
- Pitsco Robotic Seeker for STEM Learning — $4,600
These are just a few examples of how Foundation grants can help seed new ideas, enhance existing programs, and create meaningful learning opportunities for students and staff across SPCS.

An ten-member board of directors representing our district and the surrounding community governs the operation of the Foundation. Current members are as follows: Gene Lienemann, President; Keith Hentzen, Vice President; Dr. Ryan Saunders, Treasurer; and Members: Chris Dill, Brett Kreifels, Brenda Guenther, Tom Marshall, Tim Lorenz, Travis Jacott, and Jacob Betsworth.
