Oak Leaf Development Continues to Grow

Growth continues across Springfield Platteview Community Schools boundaries, and one of the fastest developing areas is near 72nd Street and Capehart Road, where the Oak Leaf development is rapidly taking shape.

Thanks to voter support of the SPCS Bond 2026–2028 Project, the district is planning ahead for that growth with a future elementary school site planned within the Oak Leaf area. While the future school remains approximately two years away from construction, visible progress throughout the development highlights the continued expansion occurring within district boundaries.

The new Springfield Platteview elementary school in the Oak Leaf development is currently projected to open in Fall 2029. Construction on the new school has not yet begun.

The larger Oak Leaf development is a 440-acre master-planned community expected to eventually include approximately 800 homes, commercial spaces, and a future Springfield Platteview elementary school. SPCS currently has two elementary schools, and the future Oak Leaf school would become the district’s third elementary school. Although only a portion of the land is currently occupied, residential growth and infrastructure construction continue moving quickly throughout the area.

Tallgrass Development Highlights Expanding Housing Opportunities

One featured section of Oak Leaf is Tallgrass, a 35-acre mixed-income neighborhood being developed by Hoppe Development. Tallgrass is expected to include approximately 600 housing units featuring a combination of market-rate homes, affordable rental units, and affordable row and single-family homes developed in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Omaha.

The Tallgrass project has received attention for integrating affordable housing opportunities into a suburban setting while supporting continued residential growth in Sarpy County.

Examples of housing currently being developed in the area include modern, family-oriented townhomes offering spacious floor plans, attached garages, updated kitchens, and energy-efficient designs. One recently listed property in the area includes a four-bedroom, two-bathroom townhome with approximately 1,790 square feet of living space designed to support families.

Planning for Future Students and Families

As development continues, Springfield Platteview Community Schools is planning proactively to support future enrollment growth and long-term facility needs.

Current SPCS schools serving that area include:

  • Westmont Elementary School – approximately 7 miles away
  • Platteview Central Junior High School – approximately 5 miles away
  • Platteview High School – approximately 5 miles away

Elementary-aged students living in the Oak Leaf development area are zoned to attend Springfield Platteview’s Westmont Elementary School. Springfield Elementary is currently near capacity and is not accepting additional traditional option enrollment students at this time. Westmont Elementary currently has the capacity to serve students from the Oak Leaf area.

At the same time, construction activity has started at Platteview High School as part of the district’s voter-approved bond project. Improvements are focused on expanded learning spaces, safety enhancements, Career and Technical Education renovations, and future growth needs.

PHS back entrance only map

Due to ongoing construction, the east field entrance is currently the only accessible entry to Platteview High School during the summer months. Visitors attending activities, camps, meetings, or appointments must use this specific entrance. The high school office is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. If you experience any issues entering the building or have questions, please contact the main office directly at 402-339-3606.

Bond funding for district projects will continue to be distributed on an as-needed basis as projects move through planning and construction phases.

The continued growth near Oak Leaf reflects how far Springfield Platteview Community Schools reaches across the region and reinforces the importance of planning ahead for future students and families.
