SPCS in Action: Read Across America Week, March 2–6

Next week, schools across Springfield Platteview Community Schools will celebrate Read Across America Week, joining schools nationwide in recognizing the power and importance of literacy.

Throughout the week, elementary students will participate in a variety of reading-focused activities designed to promote a love of books, spark imagination, and reinforce the value of strong literacy skills. Classrooms will highlight favorite stories, encourage creative expression, and provide opportunities for students to engage with reading in fun and meaningful ways.

Several schools are incorporating spirit days and themed activities to connect books with school pride and community involvement. These experiences are intentionally designed to be simple, inclusive, and accessible for all families while keeping the focus on reading and engagement.

Read Across America Week serves as a reminder that literacy is foundational to student success. Strong reading skills impact every subject area and open doors to lifelong learning. By creating positive and memorable experiences around books, our schools continue to foster confident, capable readers.

We look forward to a week filled with stories, creativity, and school spirit across the district.
