Attendance FAQ: Common Questions from Families

Will I get in trouble for too many absences?

Our goal is to support, not punish. If attendance becomes a concern, we will reach out to better understand what is going on and work with you to find solutions.

We focus on helping students stay connected to school and addressing challenges early.

This happens more often than people think. There is usually an underlying reason, such as anxiety, social concerns, or something else going on.

We encourage you to reach out to your child’s school. We can work together to understand what is causing the difficulty and build a plan to support your child.

We understand that families have different schedules and opportunities. If you are planning time away, please communicate with your school in advance.

We will work with you to support your child’s learning as much as possible while they are gone. 

Start with your child’s teacher or school counselor. They can help with strategies, routines, and identifying any underlying challenges.

Even small adjustments can make a big difference over time.

Tardies and early pickups can add up and impact learning. If this is happening regularly, we encourage you to reach out so we can help problem-solve.

We can work together to find solutions that support your child’s schedule and success.

School-related anxiety is something many students experience at different points. You are not alone in navigating this.

Our staff can help support your child through check-ins, planning, and connection to additional resources when needed.

Missing about 10 percent of the school year, which is roughly two days per month, can begin to impact learning. This is often referred to as chronic absenteeism.

If absences are starting to add up, we will work with you early to provide support and keep your child on track.

If you forget to report an absence, just contact your school as soon as you can. We can update the record and make sure everything is accurate.

We understand that things happen and communication is what matters most.

If you are unsure who to contact, the school office is always a good place to begin. They will connect you with the right person.
